Spanish consortium Geodigital is buying Hass avocados in the Chalatenango area for export to the European Union market. This initiative is supported by the Salvadoran Government and the Trifinio Plan with the goal to provide technical assistance to small producers and offer them the opportunity to export their products as an alternative to local marketing.
The area has been chosen for having a considerable area dedicated to the cultivation of the Hass avocado and for having very interesting climatic conditions.
Thirty of the more than 200 producers in the area are already interested in the project. However, the idea is to add the largest number of farmers willing to participate in the project.
Geodigital is made up of five companies that produce and export avocados. They are currently in the organizational phase, with assistance and advice from quality experts.
The Government of El Salvador previously made a diplomatic visit to Spain in order to contact parties interested in the Trifinio Plan.
