Costa Rica: Upala Agrícola presents its pineapple production model to government representatives

As part of the inter-institutional tour carried out by the Ministries of Foreign Trade (COMEX), Agriculture and Livestock (MAG), the Environment and Energy (MINAET), Legislative Assembly, State Phytosanitary Service (SFE), the Chamber of Commerce Producers and Exporters of Pineapple (CANAPEP), among others; Upala Agricola presented its fresh pineapple production model, which is based on environmental protection, prevention of occupational risks, support to communities and security management in the international trade supply chain.

COMEX seeks to promote and encourage exports from Costa Rica, offering products that represent the country's flavor, with a large percentage of added value in environmental and social matters, as it is a clear global exposure in the line of biodiversity and business.

According to Alfredo Volio, the President and CEO of Upala Agrícola, "receiving the visit of so many government representatives is a unique opportunity for our company. Having the delegation experience the daily routine of each of the production tasks to produce fresh pineapple allows us to boost exports to our current and future destinations. It is a country challenge that can boost our economy," he said.

The Minister of Foreign Trade and President of the Board of Directors of PROCOMER, Dyala Jimenez, stated, "I celebrate these spaces that allow me to attend first hand the needs and support that the Government can provide producers.

I would also like to reiterate our commitment to promote an economic reactivation through action plans that provide innovation and technology from the hand of environmental conservation, to small, medium and large companies."

Upala Agricola fits perfectly in all areas, as it is the largest employer in the region with almost a thousand employees in its 2,500 hectares. In addition, the company produces pineapples via sustainable agriculture, seeking the optimization of resources, the mitigation of climate change, and the protection of biodiversity through the effective control of activities that may generate risks to human health and the environment, which is relevant to our context.

The delegation made a tour of the areas of preparation of the fields for planting, harvesting, maintenance of lots, reserve areas, and biological corridors of Upala Agricola, as well as its quality control departments, and packing plants, among other sites.
