The fifth section of the Provincial Court of Valencia will hold, between Tuesday and Thursday of this week, the trial of a 41-year old man who is accused of defrauding more than 200,000 euro to twelve owners of citrus plots in the province of Valencia between January 2012 and February 2016.
The Public Prosecutor's Office has asked that the man be sentenced to five years in prison for his crime and that he be fined with 3,300 euro, in addition to compensating the amounts he allegedly defrauded.
The prosecutor stated in his indictment that the defendant had signed contracts with the holders of agricultural plots for the collection of citrus fruits and that, once he completed these tasks, he didn't pay them any amount for the fruit and that he dismissed all payment requests that the owners of the plots made to him.
In some cases, he appropriated crops valued at more than 100,000 euro, leaving promissory notes that the bank denied payment.
The defendant allegedly appropriated in an improper manner hundreds of tons of persimmons, oranges, and mandarins from plots located in Lliria, Alberic, Alzira, and Xativa, among other localities.
