Florida Citrus exported worldwide

While about 95 percent of Florida Oranges are destined to become 100% Florida Orange Juice, some Florida Oranges and several fresh Florida Citrus varieties are shipped across the country and around the world. Destinations for Florida Citrus include Canada, Europe, Japan and South Korea.

About 40 percent of Florida Grapefruit are shipped fresh within the United States and beyond. The biggest export market for Florida Grapefruit is Japan, where approximately 24 percent of the fruit went during the 2013-14 season. About 22 percent went to Europe and 8 percent to Canada that year.

Of the Florida Oranges exported in 2014, about 23 percent headed to Canada and 12 percent to Japan.

For specialty varieties of Florida Citrus, including Tangerines, about 24 percent went to Canada and 23 percent to Japan.

The amount of Florida Citrus exports has decreased in recent years; however, the decrease has tracked closely with the steady decline in production attributed to HLB or “citrus greening.” Growers and scientists are working together to find a way to combat the disease.
