Bac Ninh expands controlled fruit zones for export markets

Bac Ninh province in Vietnam is enlarging controlled fruit-production zones for lychee, longan, orange, pomelo, apple, and custard apple under VietGAP, GlobalGAP, and organic standards. According to Duong Thanh Tung, Director of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, the focus is on traceability-linked value chains and meeting domestic and export requirements.

The province is also promoting grape varieties and increasing the use of digital tools for production management, plantation-code oversight, and pest and weather forecasting.

For 2026, Bac Ninh targets 29,800 ha of lychee with 160,000 tons expected. VietGAP will cover 17,500 ha, GlobalGAP 235 ha and organic 10 ha. Concentrated zones have been instructed to follow safe-cultivation standards, including guidance on pest control and residue management.

Bac Ninh manages 240 lychee plantation codes covering 17,421 ha for export. According to Pham Van Thinh, Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee, the province will continue organising production and upgrading traceability systems. An irradiation centre is under study for completion in 2026 to support export handling.

Bac Ninh has 53,900 ha of fruit crops, with 33,400 ha in concentrated zones. The province has issued 400 plantation codes and 43 packing-facility codes, with fruit value exceeding US$280.5 million. Inspection work between March and July 2025 led to recommendations for two new packing-facility codes for longan exports to China and Australia.
