Australian almond growers will see a renewed focus on export development as the Almond Board of Australia (ABA), in partnership with Hort Innovation, launches the next phase of its Market Development and Market Access project.
The initiative aims to expand market access, strengthen export pathways, and support long-term industry planning. It incorporates production forecasts, trade data, and consumer insights to determine priority destinations.
Australia's almond industry is forecast to produce 130,000 tons annually. Based on trade access conditions, economic indicators, and consumption patterns, the project identifies China, India, and Southeast Asian markets such as Indonesia and Malaysia as key areas for development.

Brett Fifield, CEO at Hort Innovation, said the project is intended to support the industry's direction. "Australian almond growers are at the forefront of global innovation, delivering premium quality and unmatched versatility to markets worldwide. This project is about building on our strengths, deepening engagement, and ensuring our growers continue to thrive in a dynamic global landscape."
Merbein grower Neale Bennett said the work is important for maintaining the industry's position. "Almond buyers are actively seeking out Australian almonds, especially in our key markets like China and India, and it will be great to build on this momentum."
The project follows previous marketing efforts, including the Love Aussie Almonds, They'll Love You Back campaign, which introduced Murray the Almond Kangaroo as a branding tool for international audiences.
The refreshed strategy focuses on consistent messaging, product quality, and market expectations, while seeking to support awareness and demand in export markets. The earlier campaign has attracted interest from overseas industry groups and organisations.
Project AL24002 is funded by Hort Innovation through the almond research and development levy, with contributions from the Australian Government.
