Spanish retailer starts new orange season with national supply

The 2025/26 Spanish orange season has begun, with the retailer sourcing fruit from growers in the Valencian Community, Andalusia, the Region of Murcia, and Catalonia. Through partnerships with 13 suppliers working with more than 2,000 farmers, the company expects to commercialise 131,000 tons of oranges during the campaign, which will run until around August.

The oranges are supplied by Martinavarro, Bollo, Fontestad, Frutas Tono, Frutinter, Anecoop, Alcafruit, Lasarte, Agronostrum, AM Fresh Spain Citrus, Grupo Llusar Torres, Vicente Giner, and Nufresco. The fruit is sold loose and in 3 kg and 5 kg net bags.

Spanish-grown oranges are part of the retailer's broader national citrus program, which started in October with tangerines and lemons. The company reports that its sourcing strategy aims to prioritise domestic supply when product availability and quality align with store needs.

According to the retailer, extending the availability of Spanish oranges through the end of summer is supported by close coordination with suppliers. Internally, the company refers to customers as "Bosses" and states that its citrus sourcing model is designed to meet quality specifications and maintain supply consistency across stores. The retailer reports that 85 percent of its overall assortment is produced in Spain.

Freshly squeezed orange juice remains part of the citrus offer, produced in stores using equipment developed through collaboration between the retailer, Zumex, and customers. Pack sizes include 250 millilitres, 500 millilitres, and 1 litre.

The retailer also highlights its participation in the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food's #AlimentosDeEspaña strategy, promoting Spanish-grown food products, and its adherence to the Code of Good Commercial Practices in Food Procurement.
