Egypt reaches record orange export volumes to Canada

Egypt continues to expand its role in the Canadian orange market, reaching a new seasonal export record, according to EastFruit.

Between November 2024 and August 2025, Egyptian exporters shipped more than 25,000 tons of oranges to Canada, generating over US$20 million in revenue. This represents a 50% increase from the previous season and more than triple the volume exported in 2022/23. Over the past three seasons, Egypt's orange exports to Canada have increased nearly thirtyfold.

The country's export window typically runs from January through July, with the highest volumes recorded between February and April. In March 2025, shipments reached 7,200 tons, nearly matching the total volume exported during the entire 2022/23 season.

The Canadian orange market is mainly supplied by the United States and South Africa, which together account for 60–70% of total imports. U.S. oranges dominate the market from December to May, while South African fruit leads from July to October.

Since last season, Egypt has become the third-largest supplier to Canada, surpassing Morocco and Spain. The country's market share has increased from 0.5% in 2021/22 to 10% in 2023/24. During the first ten months of the current season, Egypt's share exceeded 15%.

Morocco has also increased its orange exports to Canada, while Spain's volumes have declined for the third year in a row. Exporters from Australia, Turkey, and Peru each shipped more than 1,000 tons. In total, Canada imported oranges from 40 countries during the 2024/25 season.

Egypt has also recorded growth in orange exports to Brazil and Argentina, expanding its presence in global citrus trade.
