The 2025 season for early-maturing apples in China has started with firm prices and slightly increased production. In Gansu's Jingning area, high-quality varieties like Asus and Gala are selling for around 4 yuan per catty (approximately $1.10/kg) at the farm gate, similar or slightly better than last year. In Shaanxi's Liquan region, paper-bagged Gala apples fetch 4.5-5 yuan per catty (around $1.24-$1.38/kg), driven by improved fruit quality and buyer willingness to pay a premium, as reported by Guojiguoshu.
Regional differences remain stark. In Shandong, Asus apples are priced between 6-7.2 yuan/kg ($0.83–$1.00/kg), Red General apples (starting red) are at 5.4-7 yuan/kg ($0.75-$0.97/kg), and green varieties are even lower at 4-5 yuan/kg ($0.55-$0.69/kg). Transportation challenges and smaller planting scales in some areas continue to affect pricing.
Early-maturing apples have risen by 5-8% nationwide this year, with high-quality fruit still in limited supply. Despite some remaining cold-stored Fuji apples and competition from seasonal fruits like watermelon and peaches, the low inventory of apples overall has kept prices stable.
