Export-oriented blueberry project in Laos launched

Proterra Investment Partners Asia has partnered with Mekong Blue Singapore Pte. Ltd. and a team of Chinese berry industry experts to establish a new blueberry cultivation venture in southern Laos. The project, located in the Paksong region on the Bolaven Plateau, aims to build a high-quality, export-focused blueberry business, as reported by Guojiguoshu.

This marks Proterra Asia's first investment in Laos. The firm, a prominent food sector investor across Asia, sees strong potential in Laos due to its favourable climate, strategic location, and growing demand for fresh berries in the region. Tai Lin, Managing Partner at Proterra Asia, described the move as a strategic extension of the firm's regional food investment portfolio.

The Bolaven Plateau, known for its elevation and agricultural suitability, has also drawn other major players. Earlier this year, Costa Group announced the development of a 17-hectare blueberry farm in the same area, with plans to expand to 200 hectares by 2028.

With this latest investment, Laos continues to attract attention as an emerging hub for high-value crop cultivation targeted at global markets.
