Brazilian researchers have developed a variety of peach tree that allows harvesting after the harvest period, which fills a gap in the fruit's supply on the market. BRS Sarau is suitable for fresh consumption and has high quality, firm pulp, sweet flavor and low acidity. With an estimated productivity of 20 tons per hectare, it is recommended for cultivation in the South and Southeast regions of the country, traditional producers of fruit for table consumption.
BRS Sarau begins fruit maturation, on average, ten days after the start of the currently most used cultivar, in the region of Pelotas (RS), and, although it produces smaller fruits, they have a better flavor, which, combined with at ripening time, makes it an excellent option for continuing the harvest and offering quality fruits to the consumer market. The new material should replace the old Chiripá peach cultivar.
