São Francisco Valley grape and mango exports expected to grow 25%

According to estimates made by the Association of Fruit and Vegetable Producers and Exporters of the São Francisco Valley (Valexport), exports of table grapes and mangoes from the São Francisco Valley are expected to increase this year.

Valexport president, José Gualberto: “Our expectation is to have exports, on average, 25% higher than in 2022, which was a bad year. This year, the weather was good and some of our competitors were also hit by El Niño and will have less fruit to sell. This year, our expectation is to export 270 thousand tons of mangoes and 80 thousand tons of table grapes.”

Last year, producers in the Valley reduced exports by around 15% - compared to 2021 - due to the large volume of untimely rains that hit the region. The last good harvest in the region was 2021, when 246,000 tons of mangoes and 75,000 tons of table grapes were exported. In 2022, that region sent 211 ,000 tons of mangoes and 52 ,000 tons of table grapes abroad. Generally, exports represent around 20% to 25% of total fruit production.
