First crop of UK grown Pink Lady® apples

Coregeo, Star Fruits and APAL are pleased to announce that the first crop of UK grown Pink Lady® apples will be rolled out into UK retailers on Friday 18th February, following a new trial in the UK with Kent growers Adrian Scripps Ltd and Worldwide Fruit Ltd.

The orchards were selected on their ability to consistently produce high quality Pink Lady and allow the fruit time on the tree to develop the signature sweet, fizzy crunch, since it is the first variety to blossom and the last to be picked.

Commercial orchards have been established in France, Spain and  Italy in Europe and across the main apple producing countries in the Southern Hemisphere.

Current availability of apples, from the Northern hemisphere, runs from November until June, at which point apples from the Southern hemisphere arrive to provide year-round supply to the market.

After an initial trial in 2011, Coregeo and Star Fruits, who hold the Community Plant Variety Rights to the varieties marketed under Pink Lady and Joya® trademarks and are the master licensees in Europe, instructed Adrian Scripps Ltd and Worldwide Fruit Ltd to commence a new commercial trial in the UK.

There is a huge demand for homegrown fruits from both retailers and consumers. Coregeo is currently managing the Pink Lady program in the UK where Pink Lady is the number one fresh produce brand in the country.
