Cassatelle Siciliane, the blood orange brand known all over Italy

Cassatelle Siciliane is a new brand that was established last year by Michele Sodano, a young trader and representative of Ortofrutta Mele. It commercializes crates of Tarocco Lempso and Tarocco tradizionale blood oranges, very esthetically appealing due to the color of their peel, and decorated with a customized strip and an orange placed in a paper case at the center.

"The consumption of blood oranges has increased considerably over the past few years. This new brand, dedicated exclusively to Tarocco oranges, has immediately sparked the interest of buyers and consumers, so much so that operators call me to order a certain number of pallets for the following day. I am very pleased with what this brand has managed to achieve on the domestic market in such little time."

"The fruits are grown in eastern Sicily, at the foothills of Mount Etna. They are harvested at an advanced ripening stage and packaged in our facilities. Compared with the past season, when the quantities of Lempso oranges were limited due to unfavorable weather events, volumes will be much higher this year, so commercialization will continue until May."

Consumers prefer smaller grades at the moment. "Because of the price hikes, families are choosing smaller grades (8-10) to try and spend less without having to compromise on the origin of the products. As for the prices, we decided to keep ours unchanged despite the increases in transport costs with the aim of adopting aggressive market strategies and promoting the brand."

"The weather has helped us a lot this year: the days have been mostly sunny with the right amount of rain, so we avoided drops and deterioration. The only competitor are clementines, although most volumes have been sold. The markets seem very lively, but I believe orders will escalate over the next couple of weeks."

"Cassatelle Siciliane are nice to look at and extraordinarily good to eat. What is more, when you cut the fruits, you witness a true explosion of Mediterranean colors and aromas."
