A&P Service assists apple sector with new process

"Residue-free cleaning and polishing of apples"

A&P Service, based in Jork, is firmly established as a machine builder and supplier in the pome fruit industry. For many years now, the service provider has been providing advice and assistance to regional growers and traders in the Alte Land as well as to customers in other parts of Germany or in neighbouring countries. For the second half of the season of this apple year, which is characterised by Corona, the company is launching a machine innovation, says Managing Director Peter Schiffmann.

New in the company's machine portfolio is the cleaning and polishing machine for apples. "This novel process cleans and polishes apples in a gentle way," Schiffmann explains. The machine process is intended to contribute significantly to residue-free preparation and thus to better product quality of the product to be marketed. "With the help of the machine, the respective user removes all weather-related residues including irrigation and spraying stains."

New & tried and tested
Apart from the new cleaning and polishing machine, the Jork-based company also relies on the tried and tested solutions in these times of crisis. In recent years, the company has been particularly keen to push the issue of sustainable and gentle product packaging for fruit and vegetables. To this end, the company has developed several innovative solutions in close cooperation with well-known partners, such as banding and winged punnets for pome fruit.

Especially the banding of fruit and vegetables is suddenly gaining in importance within the international fruit industry. "Firstly, because the band fixes itself around the fruit peel, regardless of the size of the packaging and without the fruit being able to be removed from the packaging afterwards. Secondly, the solution offers the advantage at the POS that the fruit is visible to the consumer. Because of this, its potential is inexhaustible."
