China: Drone services expanded in 2020

According to official data, drone services expanded last year in China, as the emerging technology has been promoted in various sectors. There were about 523,600 registered unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) at the end of 2020. UAVs logged 1.594 million operating flight hours last year, up 36.4 percent from the previous year, according to the Civil Aviation Administration of China.

The country has been boosting the use of UAVs in various fields such as agriculture and environmental protection. During the harvest season for navel oranges this winter, UAVs carrying boxes of the fruit above the plantations have become a common sight in a district of Ganzhou, east China’s Jiangxi Province.

According to macaubusiness.com¸ the UAVs were put into use in Nankang District as part of the local government’s efforts to deliver agricultural products for e-commerce and help boost local farmers’ incomes in the mountainous region.
