The Gulf Citrus Growers Association has elected officers and directors to serve the organization for the 2020-21 season in representing the citrus-growing industry in Southwest Florida’s Gulf Region, which includes Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry and Lee counties.
Elected to lead the regional citrus association are president: Ron Mahan, Tamiami Citrus; vice president: Danny Sutton, Alico Inc.; secretary: Wayne Simmons, LaBelle Fruit Co.; and treasurer: Rob Atchley, A. Duda & Sons.
The GCGA also seated its 2020-2021 board of directors. Elected to serve one-year terms are Collier County: Tom Kirschner, Cooperative Producers Inc.; Ron Mahan, Tamiami Citrus; and Bob Newsome, Barron Collier Partnership; Glades County: David Wheeler, Wheeler Farms; Hendry County; Rob Atchley, A. Duda & Sons; Julian Gardinier, Gardinier Florida Citrus; Dale Johnson, JEBCO Citrus; Wayne Simmons, LaBelle Fruit Co.; and Danny Sutton, Alico Inc.; Lee County: Kirk Harris, Lipman; and At-Large Director: Dan Pool Jr., Custom Citrus Care.
The Gulf Region accounts for more than 25% of Florida’s total fruit production, and generates nearly $1 billion of total economic impact in the region.
