Companies work together to better promote Boerica kiwifruits

Boerica® is definitely a valid alternative to the popular Hayward green kiwifruit variety. Boerica® fruits stand out for their bright green flesh, oblong shape and higher weight.

The University of Bologna observed that the average weight of the fruits harvested at the same time as the Hayward variety was of around 130 grams. Dry matter content exceeded 17% and the refractometric residue exceeded 6.5° Brix.

Boerica® is an opportunity for green kiwifruit producers because it can guarantee the best economic result due to its higher quality and lower production costs.

In order to promote the variety, Commercio Frutta cooperates with Jingold®, a leading company that has developed a plan to commercialize high-end green kiwifruits taking advantage of the qualitative characteristics of the Boerica variety, sold under the Jingold Bliss® brand in Italy and all over the world.

"Commercio Frutta has the objective of gathering the Boerica® productions as much as possible to be able to promote it as best as it can. We are willing to talk to as many companies as possible to understand whether our needs meet those of producers. We believe we can push this variety further, because its characteristics are truly interesting and even better than Hayward," explains owner Maurizio Filippi.

"Commercio Frutta boasts a qualified technical office. We believe technical assistance can help producers obtain high-quality fruits with the standard required and therefore improve yields."

"Therefore, we are not only thinking about new orchards, but we would like to involve companies that already grow Boerica® to prevent fragmentation and therefore small volumes that would be difficult to promote and that would be swamped by the mass of existing green kiwis."

From an agronomic point of view, plants meet producer needs. In particular, there are very few split or flat fruits or even triple inflorescences, meaning fewer hours/hectare are needed for thinning.
