Oaxaca is Mexico's third largest producer of Persian limes

The entity of Oaxaca ranked as the third biggest producer of Persian limes in Mexico after producing 285,986 tons of this product in 2018, and it is also the seventh state with the highest citrus production in the country as it produces around 318 thousand tons of citrus per year.

Currently the state produces Mexican limes, Persian limes, oranges, grapefruits, and mandarins in 25,529 hectares.

According to data from the Agri-Food and Fisheries Information Service (SIAP), in 2018 the entity produced 285,986 tons of citrus in 21,218 hectares, only behind states like Michoacan, which produced 733,632 tons, and Veracruz with 657,602 tons.

In 2017, lime production amounted to 274,581 tons, i.e. 11 thousand tons less than last year.

Persian lime exports amount to an approximate 263 thousand tons a year and represent one of the most important crops in the regions of the Papaloapan Basin and the Isthmus of Tehuantepec.
