Molecular Nutrition and Food Research:

Study shows mangoes help fight constipation

A new report fingers the mango as a good fruit for cleansing the body. The modern diets people use to cleanse their insides are often about fighting constipation and restoring the body's balance. But a new study says there may be a food that works just as well as some popular constipation-fighting supplements.

For a long time now, we've been told that fruits, vegetables and whole grains are high in fiber; a good choice against chronic constipation. Many of these are popular in cleansing diets along with plenty of water or other natural juices and fluids. But there's one food that may be more outstanding when it comes to the natural way to cleanse the body: the mango.

A pilot study in Molecular Nutrition and Food Research found when compared to psyllium powder, commonly found in supplements to fight constipation, mango was just as good - perhaps even better - at restoring the body's natural elimination rhythm as supplements.

According to an article on local12.com¸ the mango eaters did just as well in every compared category from frequency to less pain, and, in some categories, they did a bit better than the supplement group. The mango is better because it also has other good nutrition such as polyphenols.
