Seasonal summer fruits enter the market as the weather grows hot. In February of this year there was abundant rain, while the summer was dry. These conditions caused an abundant harvest of most summer fruits.
However, with an abundant harvest also comes the possibility that supply exceeds demand. Lychees are the most important summer fruit in Guangxi, in particular in Lingshan which is known as the hometown of lychee in China. The price of lychees in Guangxi dropped as a result of the abundant harvest. In previous years the price was around 1.2 yuan [0.18 USD] per 0.5 kg, but this year the price has dropped to 0.8 yuan [0.12 USD] per 0.5 kg. In some production areas the price of lychees even dropped to 0.5 yuan [0.07 USD] per 0.5 kg and still people were unwilling to buy them.
