Winner of apple song contest announced
Opal® apple crowned Angie G. of Covington, Kentucky the Grand Prize winner in the SupercrispiOpalicious Jingle contest. Taking place this spring, the contest challenged fans to create and perform their own original song on video about why they love Opal apples.
Angie’s original song, “The First Time I Had an Opal Apple,” was well received by a panel of judges for its creativity, originality and energy. The contest then moved into its second phase with a public voting period via the Opal apples website. Angie’s entry was chosen as the Grand Prize winner based on a mix of the public vote and a second round of scoring by judges for musicality and originality.
Angie’s hard work was rewarded with a trip for two to New York City including round-trip airfare, a three-night stay at the Kimberly Hotel, two Broadway show tickets, and cash for additional expenses and fun.
“We really enjoyed viewing all of the entries and were impressed by everyone’s creativity to capture Opal’s crisp, delicious taste and fun-loving spirit in their songs,” said Chuck Zeutenhorst, general manager of FirstFruits Marketing. “Angie’s entry really hit all the marks and we look forward to sharing her jingle with all of our Opal apple fans across the country.”
Hilary L., the Second Place winner with her original song “Sunshine and Good Times,” was awarded a gift card and third place winner James F. also received a gift card for his song, “Opie’s Ode to the Opal Apple.”
The contest set out to drive both brand awareness and consumer engagement, with tens of thousands of views of both the contestants’ entries and contest hype video. Additionally, Opal saw thousands of comments, shares and mentions on social media throughout the contest. Angie’s video and song will continue to appear on the Opal apple website and social media and become a permanent part of Opal’s creative content driving consumer excitement and engagement.
Opal apples are supported all season long with a marketing strategy including in-store support, a full calendar of consumer events and public relations, social media and digital content, partnerships with consumer influencers and a targeted digital advertising campaign.
