UK family farm plans on building large potato store

Nick Harrold from E F Harrold Ltd in Oulton, near Aylsham, has applied to Broadland District Council for full planning permission for a 2,200 ton agricultural box potato store. The family farm hopes to build this large potato store in order to boost business and reduce the impact of delivery vehicles on rural roads.

If approved, the 36.6 by 8 metres steel building would be on Street Farm, off The Street, matching surrounding agricultural buildings. The store would include an open loading canopy, office and machinery store.

A design and access statement read: “The business has limited potato storage of its own... Moving all of potatoes directly off the farm at harvest time is a logistical problem, a very inefficient use of labour, due to the sporadic nature of harvest. And with its intensive nature, an intensive use of the local road network.”

According to edp24.co.uk, the store would not be near any homes.
