Kenya: Avocado exports grow to €52 million

Kenya has increased its avocado exports to Sh6.5 billion (€52 mln) in the last four years. Export Processing Council official Peter Biwott said that Kenya exported 46.7 tonnes of the fruit in 2016 -up from 38.9 tonnes in 2015- valued at Sh5.2 billion (€41.75 mln).

Speaking after meeting officials of the International Trade Centre (ITC), Biwott announced plans to increase production of avocados to service the huge market across the globe.

According to standardmedia.co.ke, ITC officials are producing a film on the Netherlands Trust Fund III-Avocado Project in Kenya, hoping to improve the export of the fruit. Through this project, 11 companies and 294 farmers that grow avocados successfully attained Global GAP Certification.
