South Korean pears to be allowed into Argentina

Starting next year, South Korean farmers will be able to export pears to Argentina. The two nations have reached an agreement on new quarantine protocols, according to the Ministry of Agriculture.

South Korea has wanted access to the Argentinian markets for its fresh pears since 1997. Last week the two parties agreed on quarantine standards and other issues, YonHap News learned.

The Argentine government will notify the World Trade Organization of its quarantine requirements and will then wait 60 days for expert opinions before allowing these imported goods in February. South Korea exports its pears to several Latin American nations, including Chile, Peru, Mexico and Brazil.
