Polish apple prices drop 10% in a week due to supply increase

Apple prices have been going down in Poland and are already 10% lower week-on-week, according to Fruit-Inform.

Now growers offer their apples at 0.28-0.45 euro/kg, depending on quality and variety, while a week before prices were not lower than 0.31 euro/kg.

The Polish growers connect this negative trend with an increase in the supply of produce from unequipped storage facilities, as sellers try to sell those apples before the frosts.

Nevertheless, growers manage to maintain prices of the currently most expensive Gala apples. As of a week before, their prices still vary between 0.38-0.45 euro/kg thanks to high demand for this variety.

It should be noted that the demand for other apples has been rather moderate for a long time. Despite that, prices average 2.4 times as high as in the same period of the previous year due to lower apple production in Poland.
