Apple production in Iran increases 9% to 3.7m tonnes

It is estimated that some 3.7 million tons of apples will be produced from over 250,000 hectares across Iran in the current crop year to register close to a 9% increase compared with last year’s production, Shokrollah Hajivand, an official with the Ministry of Agriculture, said.

Apple harvest season in Iran starts in late August and ends in late November.

West Azarbaijan is a major apple production hub in Iran. There are more than 112,500 hectares of fruit orchards in the northwestern province, more than half of which are apple farms.

Head of West Azarbaijan Agricultural Jihad Organisation Esmaeil Karimzadeh said this year over 1.2 million tons of apples are expected to be produced from close to 60,500 hectares there.
