"We always accept the challenge of innovating and growing, it is part of our DNA. That's why, since we integrated Peru as a new origin, we added two new fruits to our portfolio: avocado and table grapes.
The premium grape varieties that we will grow in the region are the Sweet Globe variety, which is characterized by its large elongated cluster, good production, round to slightly oval shape, crispiness and firmness, and the Jack's Salute variety, a seedless sweet, turgid variety.
The harvest is scheduled for the first days of December, so the grapes will soon be in the market," stated Agustina Fabbio, the Manager of Development of New Business of San Miguel. According to Fabbio, the grapes are a dynamic crop that require very short working hours and care, and that have some critical control points: "The operation is key: harvest times, arrival times, packing and cooling processes. There can be a maximum of 6 hours from the time a bunch is cut in the field until the grape enters the cold tunnel."
Agustina also spoke about the characteristics of the grapes that San Miguel will offer: "We have new patented varieties in our fields, which are highly valued by customers. They are known as Premium grapes within the world of seedless grapes, and one of their positive attributes is their size. The supermarkets generally ask for a minimum size that ranges between 13 and 18 mm; these grapes are more than 20 mm big. We estimate that we are going to send a large part of the production to the United States, as it is the market that values them the most."
Peru's quality as a producer of grapes is an excellent presentation letter to buyers around the world. With the incorporation of this new origin, San Miguel expands its supply window and approaches the goal of maintaining relationships throughout the year with its customers, to build a more constant and strategic links with them.
