Romania: Carrefour doubled its profit in first half of 2017

Carrefour Romania, which operates hypermarkets under the same name and manages the franchise of the French group's proximity stores, has doubled its profit in the first half of this year compared to the same period in 2016, reaching 16.6 million lei (3.6 million Euro). During the same period, the turnover increased by 10% to almost 2.9 billion lei (630.54 million Euro).

The categories recording the most significant increases in the first half of 2017 have been fresh products in general (pork, beef, chicken, fruit and vegetables), cheese, wines and detergents.

"The rise is due both to the increase in the buying frequency and to the growth in the quantities bought," stated Carrefour officials.

Last year, the company's profit was 164 million lei (35.66 million Euro), which means that most of it was made in the second semester; the best for trade due to the winter holidays.
