The campaign has been clearly disastrous. The production amounts to around 10,000 kilos, when it usually reaches 100,000. Despite this, the president of the association of producers, Juan José Gandía, highlighted that "quantity has nothing to do with quality, which is as high as it always has been," because they make no use of herbicides or controlled atmosphere chambers to store the apples.
Regardless of the unpredictable and impossible to control climate problems, Gandía asked for "greater support" from the administrations to give a boost to an autochthonous fruit which, little by little, is opening up new market niches. In this regard, José Ignacio Velasco, manager of the Quality mark, confirmed that the line of annual grants from the Government of Castile-Leon is now ready.
For her part, the mayor of Cantabrana, Consuelo García, believes that "it is worthwhile to promote a product grown in the area." Regarding the development of the Fair, she thanked the Provincial Government and the Caja Rural de Burgos Foundation for their support, although none of this would be possible without the work of the town's inhabitants.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson of the Provincial Institution, Borja Suárez, praised the ability to "generate wealth and employment" of the producers of Caderechas, while emphasising how the "great work" of the Quality mark has turned the project into a big success.
