AU mum finds maggots in Woolworths strawberries

A mother was shocked to discover maggots wriggling inside strawberries she bought at Woolworths.

Alarna McDermott, from Queensland, said she noticed the unwelcome guests as she was preparing them for her daughter's lunchbox.

'Cheers Woolworths, got a punnet of strawberries from one of your stores last night, opened to find them infested with maggots when i got home,' she said. 'Lucky my daughter did not get to them first.'

A close up video of the strawberries she posted to the supermarket's Facebook page showed two white insects wriggling on the surface and just inside a strawberry.

Woolworths was quick to respond to her post and asked for more information to investigate the maggots' presence.

'We're very concerned about this, Alarna, and take incidents like this very seriously. For your awareness this has been escalated for immediate investigation,' it wrote.

In a follow-up comment, Ms McDermott said she talked to the strawberry supplier and thanked the supermarket for its assistance.
