Red Delicious losing favour among US consumers

"Red Delicious is way down - down 30% since 2014. Picking up the slack are Honeycrisp and the newer, "managed varieties" like Jazz, Ambrosia, Kiku and Kanzi, up by 55% in the past three years."

"Another exciting replacement," Myers says, "could be the Cosmic Crisp, developed by Washington State University." Royalties fund future research programs, as well as student and academic amenities.
