Dubai shows interest in Bulgarian cherries
Representatives of one of the largest supermarket chains in Dubai have shown their interested in Bulgarian cherries, nuts and other fruits and vegetables, as reported by the chairwoman of the National Union of Gardeners in Bulgaria (NCGB), Mariana Miltenova.
She stated that a delegation from Dubai visited Bulgaria in July. In the words of Milenova, "of all fruits and vegetables, the greatest interest was shown in our cherries."
"However, very serious interest was also shown in nuts, as well as tomatoes and melons. We hope to be able to find more contacts to be able to enter those markets," said Miltenova.
One of the disadvantages, however, is transportation. "Most of these perishable products can only be delivered by plane, which makes them more expensive; for products like watermelons or aubergines, the cost per kilogram of air shipments is very high," explained the chairwoman of the NSGB.
The organization has also been involved in promotional projects specially designed for cherries produced in Bulgaria. Such promotions have been carried out this year in Sweden, Finland, Germany, Belarus, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
"People liked the fruit. Even in Sweden, the store managers we met said our cherries were better and tastier than the Spanish ones they had received in the previous weeks. This gives us hope that we will be able to continue to expand our contacts and boost our exports, as well," concluded Miltenova.
