Blueberries helped lift Peru's farming sector by 6.4% in June

The farming sector in Peru increased 6.4% in June 2017, thus stopping the previous 4-month fall, the Central Reserve Bank (BCR) reported Thursday.

In this sense, agricultural industry expanded 10.2% in the sixth month of the current year. The rise was driven by blueberries which contributed 2.7 percentage points to the sector's growth.

For its part, domestic-market-oriented agricultural production increased 5% in June due to the recovery in rice and potato yields. Good results were mainly based on better climate conditions.

Agroindustry Agro-industrial production also expanded 13.1% during said month. Growth was underpinned by a rebound in hard corn volume. On the other hand, export-oriented production grew 21.1% in June, due to greater blueberry and coffee yields. Greater yields of grapes and artichokes were also registered.
