The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and SeaLand, the Maersk Group's regional shipping company, are launching the free online course "Shipping and International Logistics"; a guide for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and entrepreneurs in the region wishing to become involved in international trade. The course will be accessible through the
Academy of ConnectAmericas.com, the first business social network created by the IDB in collaboration with Google, DHL, Alibaba and SeaLand.
The International Transport and Logistics Online Course is an aid to entrepreneurs, producers, potential exporters or importers looking to market their products abroad, as it introduces the basic concepts that will be useful to them in their commercial efforts.
Throughout nine units, entrepreneurs will learn about transport and international trade issues, including the export and shipment process, incoterms (international trade terms), documentation, certificates and requirements, payment methods, insurances and available means of transportation.
"We are sure that this new tool will allow companies in Latin America and the Caribbean to internationalise their products in an easy and fast way. They will also be able to calculate the costs of moving goods with the Transportation Cost Estimator, which we are also launching together with SeaLand," said Fabrizio Opertti, head of the IDB's Trade and Investment Division.
"With the International Transport and Logistics Course, we seek to empower SMEs and entrepreneurs in the region who wish to expand and take advantage of business opportunities, so that their products can reach more markets and become the preferred choice of more consumers. This is part of SeaLand's commitment. With ConnectAmericas, we are committed to the growth and development of our SMEs. This training serves to tell Latin American entrepreneurs that we are here to help them and that we can do business together in America," highlighted Todd Pigeon, commercial director of SeaLand.
Those interested can register for the course at the Academia ConnectAmericas by creating a user in the following link:
