"Thailand: "We export most of our longan to China"

In recent years, the knowledge and consumption of longan has been increasing in the US, some countries in Europe, the United Arab Emirates and, especially, China. "China is a large country, which entails a great demand for the product," explains Krissada K., responsible for the development department at the company Delicious Nature. For their part, "Europe and the United States stand out as markets that demand good quality and where the product is well paid."

That is why, to date, they are exporting 80% of their production, even though the fruit is widely consumed in the country. "We produce an average of 45,000 tonnes per year together with our partner in Chathaburi," explains Krissada.

"The price of longan fluctuates like a wave," explains Krissada. It always increases the most at the beginning and end of the campaign. However, "it depends, of course, on the volume available on the market." At the moment, "a kilo of premium quality longan, with a size between 15 and 22mm, is marketed for 95 pcs," according to Krissada, who adds that the other two countries with a significant presence in the market are Vietnam, because of its low price, and China, whose production is increasing.
