New grape varieties reach 6.7% of total Chilean grape exports
The term refers to the varieties that do not count with a considerable export in the past 5 seasons and that will to renovate the export dynamics of the Chilean Table Grape. Focused mainly in seedless varieties, its main exponents are Timco and Sweet Celebration in red grapes, Arra 15 and Timpson in white.
During the 2016/17 season the new varieties export figure exceeded the 48.600 tons, reaching 6,7% of the total exported. This is the first time new varieties have reached such high levels. The numbers are more than the double of the previous season (22.200 tons) and more than three times the exported in 2014/15 (14.700 tons).
Out of the total export volume of new table grape varieties from Chile, 60% are red seedless, followed by the black seedless grapes with 18% and white seedless with 14%. With respect to the destination markets, the United States continue as the main destination for the new varieties, receiving 74% of the total, figures that show an upward trend in the last 4 seasons. In second place come Asia with 15% followed by Europe with 10%; in both markets the percentages have decreased in the last 4 seasons.
