The Netherlands is the tenth largest pear producer in the world

The Netherlands is, after Belgium, the tenth on the world listing of pear producing countries, the NFO reports. After China, Argentina, the United States and Italy are the three countries with the highest pear production in the world. Other important countries in the global pear production are Spain, Turkey, South Africa and Japan. China alone produces over 1.6 million tonnes of pears annually. The rest of the countries in the top ten are worth a production of 4.5 million tonnes altogether. Kevin Moffitt of the American Pear Bureau Northwest presented these figures at the Interpera congress that took place on 15 and 16 June in Wenatchee in the US. 160 participants from 13 countries were represented at the congress.
