Italy: Golden Grapes and their biodynamic produce

Azienda Agricola Golden Grapes was established by Luigi Brucculeri at the end of the 1970s.

In 1989, Brucculeri tried to find a way to produce healthier grapes without using synthetic products thus respecting the environment. He therefore started experimenting by growing grapes in bags made of pure cellulose.

The company is now managed by Dario Bucculeri (in the photo below), Luigi's son with a degree in Agriculture.

"The idea was to create a physical barrier that could safeguard grapes from external agents. It's a technique that makes Golden Grapes stand out against the rest."

"The company implemented organic cultivation techniques in 1994 as well as DemeterĀ®-certified biodynamic ones in 1997. This year, we are celebrating our 20th year as a biodynamic company."

The location in an area particularly suitable for fruit cultivation, the implementation of cultivation techniques that respect plants and the surrounding environment, the use of biodynamic products, the experience developed over 25 years, the constant quality monitoring and the use of suitable post-harvest techniques make Golden Grapes a leading company in the organic and biodynamic sector.

In addition to table grapes, the company also grows peaches, pears and cherries. What is more, grape quantities have increased and the calendar has extended over the years.

The company covers 40 hectares in total - 23 of them are dedicated to grape cultivation (8 of which to seedless varieties). These are the varieties grown in order of hectares: Italia (seeded white medium-late variety on 10 ha), Red Globe (seeded red medium-late on 3 ha), Centennial seedless (white early seedless on 2 ha), Crimson (red late seedless on 1 ha) Regal (white medium-late seedless on 1 ha), Autumn Royal (black medium-late seedless on 1 ha), King Ruby (black early seedless on 1 ha), Pink Muscat (pink early seedless on 1 ha); early yellow peaches (Lolita e My crest - 1 ha) late yellow peaches (O' Henry, Flaminia, Far time - 1 ha); pears (Coscia, 1 ha); cherries (Sweet Early, Early Star - 1 ha).

Golden Grapes supplies the leading German, French and Swiss retail chains and also exports to the Netherlands and Belgium. More precisely, 38% of the production is destined to Germany, 43% to France, 15% to Switzerland and 4% to Belgium and Holland.
