Spain: Huelva produced the most raspberries in April

With Huelva's strawberry season already finished, the berry campaign is also slowly moving towards its end. In June, and with the current high temperatures, the volume of raspberries marketed is falling significantly with every passing week. In the last two weeks alone, it has fallen by more than 50%.

The monitoring report of the red fruit sector, published by the Prices and Markets Observatory of the Regional Government of Andalusia, reveals that, in week 23 (from 5 to 11 June), the price at origin dropped by almost 10% compared to the previous week. The average price stood at 3.52 Euro/kg, close to the value reached in the same week of 2016.

At the start of the current 2016/17 season, raspberry prices stood at a similar level to those obtained in the 2015/16 campaign, but in January and February they were significantly higher. In March, prices were well below those of 2016, as a result of a large raspberry production.

April was the most productive month, despite of which prices remained stable and were close to those of the same month of the previous campaign. During the month of May, the distance between this year's prices and those of the previous campaign has not ceased to increase, mostly due to the huge supply in the markets. In June, prices are still in a downward trend.

As for blueberries, the production in week 23 dropped again (by about 17%), but the price at origin stood at 2.53 Euro/kg on average. The price remains stable, although at a much lower level than in same week of the previous year.
