Broccoli voted Britain's favourite vegetable

Out of all vegetables broccoli reigned supreme in an online survey of 2,000 consumers across Britain who were asked to name their favourite vegetable. Broccoli pulled in 14% of all the votes, crowning it the king of vegetables in Britain at least.

It saw off competition from sweetcorn and tomatoes, which both attracted the support of 10 per cent of those polled. Surprisingly perhaps, kale emerged as Britain’s least popular vegetable, receiving only 18 votes – less than 1 per cent of the total.

The same poll found that strawberries were the most favoured fruit, chosen by 14 per cent of participants, closely followed by banana, pineapple and mango.

The survey was commissioned by Diabetes UK to promote its Food You Love campaign during Diabetes Week.
