At the proposal of the Regional Government of Andalusia, the Guadiana Hydrographic Confederation has granted the Andalusian Cooperative Society Senabra a total of 272,250 cubic metres of underground public water to make it possible to double the blueberry production in Huelva, going from the current 30 hectares to 66.
The General Director for Planning and Management of the Public Water Authority of the Government of Andalusia, Juan Serrato, has handed the concession to the cooperative, congratulating both entrepreneurs and the City Council for promoting "innovative projects that involve research, diversification for the area and sustainable development," as reported by the regional administration in a statement.
Eight wells will provide a maximum annual volume of 272,250 cubic metres per year to Atlantic Green, which will be responsible for agricultural exploitation, and which already makes use of a previous concession on the La Belleza farm for the same crop.
Specifically, it is farming 30 hectares owned, in this case, by the City of Aroche, which requested 184,000 cubic metres of surface water a year from the Rivera del Chanza.
"This expansion entails the consolidation of Aroche's firm commitment to the agro-industrial sector as a future resource; the blueberries of the area are unique and of high quality, with every hectare environmentally certified and with a legal and efficient use of water," commented the Mayor of Aroche, José Antonio Muñiz.
