Wilko van der Zwaard, WilkoFruit:

Growing demand should increase cherry prices

Wilko Fruit have been cherry specialists since 1934. The company works with the Spanish Cherry co-operative, Valle de Jerte, and markets their cherries under the name of Zalama. "These cherries are grown in the mountains at a height of 900 metre. These are the sweetest cherries available to a brix of 22", says Wilko van der Zwaard.

"We are in full production at the moment, and have plenty of cherries available until August. They are getting darker by the day. We offer the cherries in packaging of 2 kg and 10 x 500 gram. These cherries will ensure good sales and returning customers, purely because of their taste", says Wilko.

"We also have a large volume of high quality cherries from Llerida and Zaragoza. We package these under the names of Gaudias, Espax Cerima Cherris and Ama. Prices are too low at the moment for such good quality cherries. Increased demand will certainly mean the price will pick up. We have enough available; customers just need to order", Wilko concluded.
