Poland: Wholesale strawberry prices record sharp fall
This year's strawberry season is gaining momentum. The fruit is arriving in greater volumes to Polish wholesale markets and this is reflected in prices. According to the analysis of the site www.sadyogrody.pl, the current prices range between 4 and 15 złoty* per kg.
On each of the country's wholesale markets monitored, strawberry prices have fallen; in some cases, by even more than half.
In Warsaw's Bronisze market, strawberries can currently be bought for 4.75-8 złoty per kg. This is a very big drop compared to the prices from the previous week, when producers and distributors sold the fruit for 10-15 złoty/kg.
A significant drop was also observed in Poznan, where strawberries cost 18-25 złoty/kg last week and 8-12 złoty/kg now. Prices in Lodz are slightly lower, ranging from 4 to 9 złoty per kg.
In Wroclaw, producers and distributors are selling the fruit for 5-8 złoty/ kg, whereas last week they cost 12-13 złoty/kg. In Rzeszow, a kilogram of strawberries can be bought for 9-15 złoty/kg, compared to 16-20 złoty/kg in the previous week.
The analysis was based on the official prices quoted by the wholesale markets on 29-30 May.
