Growing market for organic berries in Ukraine

In Ukraine, organic berries are gaining popularity every year, with the fastest growth being recorded in the segment of small farms (up to 10 hectares). This was revealed in a speech by Elena Daineko, director of Organic Business School, in the framework of the eighth international conference "Berries of Ukraine-2017: fresh and frozen market".

"Raspberries are currently the most popular among growers," said the expert. "According to our data, at least 80% of producers involved in the organic production of berries grow raspberries and approximately 30% of farms build their business exclusively on raspberries."

At the same time, Elena Daineko stressed that such dynamics are quite dangerous, since it could lead to overproduction of organic raspberries in the coming years, while the supply of other berries in the domestic market may be insufficient to meet the demand.

"Unfortunately, our producers don't always understand that the market will not eat more organic berries than it actually needs," concluded E. Daineko.
