China: Yields of Fei Zi Xiao lychees increasing by 100%

This year, due to the fine weather, the lychee trees in Qiongshan have had 50% more flowers than in 2016. For Fei Zi Xiao the flowering rate reached 99%, a ten year high. As the major variety from this region with a total production area of more than 60,000 acres, the lychee output this year is expected to reach 90,000 tons (180 million pounds) with an increase of 100% compared to 2016.

Lychee growing is the key agricultural industry in Qiongshan District. Currently, the total lychee cultivation area is around 60,000 acres. The Hongming Farm is the largest production base of lychees in Hainan. With an area of more than 21,000 acres, the main variety here is Fei Zi Xiao. Last year the harvest reached 30 million kilos and was worth 142 million yuan.
