This is what reported by Giovanni Raniolo (in the photo above), president of Consorzio di Tutela dell'Uva di Mazzarrone IGP (Indicazione Geografica Protetta), who also explained that 90% of the grapes are covered to hasten ripening and protect the vineyards.
"The first quantities will be harvested between 15th and 20th May. We will definitely start with Victoria and Black Magic. From what I've heard, produce from overseas should stop arriving towards late May, so we will have some free room to manoeuvre on the market."

"Profits have been good over the past few years, so producers have gone back to investing and improving varietal selections. It would be nice for things to be the same as last year."
Export
Exports should start in week 23. According to the consortium's president, the Arab market is getting bigger.
"Last year, we shipped larger quantities to the United Arab Emirates and Dubai. The fact that the Russian market is no longer available pushed us towards these countries." (Photo taken on 27th April 2017).
As regards the Canadian market, Raniolo explains that "the first few containers of Victoria will be shipped by the end of June."
