At the start of the melon export season 2017, Mitchel Schippers from HDG The Fruit Consultants, visited a large number of growers of the Staay Food Group in Costa Rica. HDG has taken care of the quality inspections of, among other products, the Costa Rican melons for Staay Food Group for some seasons now. By using HDG’s QC4U software, which was developed in-house, during the quality inspections, it becomes possible to analyse the entire season afterwards. During visits to these cultivation companies, the results of these analyses can be used to bring the supplied quality to a higher level for each grower in the coming season.
A visit such as this is also an excellent moment to look at the quality for the coming season. The quality of (water)melons was proven by, among other things, the good Brix levels that were measured. Mitchel was impressed by the growers’ professionalism and the technical state of the packing stations, which will guarantee a good melon season, thanks to the good care of the growers, according to him.
