Large cherry
"The increase of the cherry yield is due to the expanded planting, and the enthusiasm of the growers. The picking period of the outdoor cherry only lasts a week or so, but the greenhouse cherry could last about one month. The yield of the greenhouse cherry is lower than the outdoor cherry, and with higher costs, but the rate of return per mu will be two to three times higher and the profits could be over 60,000-70,000 yuan per mu. Higher living standards mean consumer preferences for cherries is increasing and, with the rapid rise of the on-line platforms and logistics, high quality delicious cherries can quickly reach the hands of buyers."

"Nationwide, the production structure of cherry is changing, and the amount of planting is increasing. In previous years, the main producing areas of greenhouse cherries was in Wafangdian city of Dalian province, but it was transferred to Yantai city of Shandong province this year. In addition, encouraged by good sales, many farmers in Henan and Sichuan provinces have also started to grow cherries. However, the increase in planting area does not pull down the market price, because the consumers demand for cherries is also increasing.

"In the past two years, the volume of imported cherries has been growing, but I do not think this will pose a threat to the sale of domestic cherries. Most of the domestic cherries are sold by contract and have a much longer shelf life compared to the imported cherries, that take at least 4-5 days to arrive, even when transported by air. Furthermore, the weather is getting warmer and the prices for domestic greenhouse cherries will fall quickly, making them much more affordable than the imported cherries."

"Our company is headquartered in Xiamen city, Fujian province, and we combine our operations with farmer cooperatives. We have a cherry plantation covering an area of about 700 acres that is located in Yantai and Weifang city of Shandong province. Our outdoor planting area accounts for 70-80%, and the other 20%-30% is for indoor greenhouse cultivation. In terms of sales mode, we have more experience this year of the development of the supply chain. We aim to establish long-term and stable cooperation with some big malls and on-line business platforms."
