Ukrainian apple exports: progress in trade balance

According to the results from the first half of the season, Ukraine is still a net exporter of apples. The source of the statistic information says that, in the first half of the season, Ukraine exported more apples than it imported. As Info-Shuvar informs, with reference to the State Committee of Statistics, Ukraine sold 6.7K tons of apples to the foreign countries for the period of June-December 2016. Import volume for the period was more than 6.1K tons.

Ukraine had a significant amount of imported apples supply in the middle of summer. In July alone, Ukraine imported more than 4.5K tons of apples, while exporting only 383 tons. In September Ukraine saw imports of apples drop almost completely while it exported more than 2K tons.

The figures are 15% less than Ukraine exported in 2013-2014, when Russia had not yet introduced its embargo. The volume, inversely, increased in comparison with July-December 2013 due to the expansion of Poland, that does not have official access to the main sales market either, because of the Russian embargo.

The main buyer of the Ukrainian apples in the first half of 2016-2017 is still Belarus with over 5K tons of the Ukrainian apples bought. Austria ranked second with more than 1K tons of organic apples shipped. For the first time in history Iraq entered third place with 180 tons of apples shipped from Ukraine.
